Ditching her locks for World’s Greatest Shave

After 17 years as a hairdresser, Aileen decided to ditch her luscious locks in a bid to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation through World’s Greatest Shave.

Aileen is a Campbell Page client from Taylors Lakes who, after obtaining an injury, was left unable to continue working full time in her chosen field. While attending appointments with Campbell Page, Aileen found out her Aunt had been diagnosed with Leukaemia.

It was such a shock, and I wanted to help in any way I could. That’s when I decided to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Giving has always been somewhat of a family trait. With Aileen’s Father promptly putting his hand up to be her Aunt’s bone marrow donor, she felt even more of a need to shed light on the disease and raise money to assist researchers in finding a cure.

Everyone has said to me, “This is a huge deal Are you sure you want to shave your head?” My reply has always been simple – “Yes, because at the end of the day it isn’t about me and my choice. It’s about trying to help the foundation and the people who don’t have a choice in the matter”.

Throughout all of this Aileen has remained focused on finding a job, ideally within the hairdressing industry because of her passion, skills and 17 years worth of experience in the field.

I’m looking at all of my options. I know I can’t go back to working in a salon full time because of my condition, but I’m thinking that maybe starting my own business through the NEIS Program and Campbell Page might be the answer as I will have more flexibility in my hours. That might be down the track though. I’ve also thought about looking into becoming a Sales Representative in the industry. I’m certainly not giving up that is for sure.

You are an inspiration Aileen – never give up!

The World’s Greatest Shave is one of Australia’s most iconic fundraising events, where people of all ages shave or colour their hair to raise money to emotionally and practically support the families of people with blood cancer, and provide funding to vital research. If you wish to donate, Aileen is still raising money through this link until June 2017: http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/aileenlichoudaris

Lots of things excite me about what we do but the most important thing is changing people’s lives. We do that a lot. We do it all the time, in all the offices, in all of our interactions. We do all we can to help people to get where they need to be in life, where they have a purpose.

Having been part of Campbell Page for 5 years, I’ve been able to share some amazing times with colleagues and clients. Living locally, I am reminded of our work long after the job seeker moves on and that’s the best part of my job.

We give people choices – we allow people to live a life filled with options – something they haven’t had before.

To me, that’s what we do for people. We give them the opportunity to make choices about where they live, what they do with their time, where they go on holidays and what they do with their life. Some situations are tougher than others but I’ve always believed the harder you fight for it, the better the reward. I try to pass that on to all the job seekers that I work with.

Be Seen in Frankston – Be Seen in the community

Earlier this month, Campbell Page held the first of our #BeSeenin2017 events. Hosted at the Frankston Bowls Club, the event was an opportunity for service providers within the community to connect and be seen.

The aim of this event was to connect service providers who specialise in employment support and health care support with one another – specifically those relating to disability and mental health. Over 30 community organisations from across the Mornington Peninsula attended the event, with many now excited about the potential partnerships that have come to light since the event.

We provided the perfect networking opportunity for these organisations, and since the event, we have received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback about how fantastic the event was for building connections and partnerships. – Sarah Ham, Business Manager

Some of the community organisations who attended included: Active One Group, Dress for Success, Enveco Health Inc, FMC – Family Mediation & Counselling, Foresite Training, Peninsula Health, Homesglen Tafe, and Royal District Nursing Service.

Staff in Focus: Jen Aspinall – Our Finance Corporate Manager

It’s very rewarding to know that you are working as part of something, seeing so many different people supported by the programs that we provide.

I’m the Corporate Finance Manager, so being able to see the impact that we have in our clients’ lives is a real eye-opener. Day-to-day I manage the financial processes, end of month reporting and financial year reporting, so from my perspective, being more in the back office, it’s just fantastic to see how many programs we’ve delivered so successfully that have impacted on people’s lives.

We give more than we know.

Campbell Page is getting stronger, really investing in the good things that we do, with a greater focus on our core strengths and in the places that we can have the most impact.
It’s an exciting future and I am looking forward to being a part of it.
