Our Disability Employment Services Bring New Hope for Lynette

It is about seeing the person and not the disability, what they can do, not what they cant. I saw that Lynette wanted to work, she just needed someone to give her a shot. I am happy to have played a part in that. – Tracy

In September 2016 Lynette visited our Disability Employment Services (DES) office in Frankston discouraged with the system and in desperate need of support. She had been with several different DES providers for 10 years and had struggled to find a long term job.

Once meeting with Campbell Page Employment Broker Tracy Stamers, Lynette started the Hospitality Program, where she gained her RSA, RSG, Food Handlers Certificate, employment preparation training and access to clothing suitable for interviews.  Through the Hospitality Program, Lynette excelled in her work placement while developing her hospitality skills on the job.

While completing her training, Lynette expressed a interest in getting work placement at Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC) in the kitchen. Tracy negotiated an interview with PARC for Lynette’s work placement, and drove her to her interview.

I was so nervous. I had been with other Disability Employment Services providers for around 10 years and never had I achieved so much with a provider in so little time. – Lynette

Lynette did well in the interview and started placement a week later. Just as Lynette began her work placement, Tracy informed Lynette of a vacancy with a chocolate manufacturer called Ultra Fine Foods, and encouraged her to apply. Lynette was successful in getting an interview and once again, Tracy took Lynette to the interview and supported her before and after.

Lynette got the job with Ultra Fine Foods and is currently discussing the potential opportunity for paid employment at the end of her placement with PARC.

I have been with several providers in the past but this is the first time I feel that there was enough care taken in finding me employment. Now with multiple certificates under my belt, job placement potentially going to become paid and a part time job at Ultra Fine Foods, I could not be happier.

Congratulations Lynette on having all of your hard work pay off! Great job Tracy on helping Lynette get motivated through our Disability Employment Services!
