Campbell Page has been working to assist young people at risk or planning to leave their secondary schooling within the next 12 months. As a result the ‘Be Discovered’ program has been developed to assist  youth in our community to holistically plan for their future and employment.

Throughout the second half of 2018 our DES teams have been delivering a tailored pilot of the ‘Be Discovered’ youth program to the students of Manor Lakes Prep- 12 College in collaboration with classroom teachers.

It has been very beneficial for them to now know that you exist and learn more about how to look for and land a job – Nicole Brajkovic, Secondary Supported Learning Leading Teacher.

The program saw students participate in hands on workshops covering topics including resume and cover letter writing and interview preparation in a foundational VCAL class. A digital approach was chosen to engage students and teach valuable skills to help them thrive in work and life.

Content used as part of the program was developed by Digital Springboard, a digital literacy initiative of Google and Infoxchange. Digital Springboard works to address identified digital skill gaps to ensure no one is left behind in today’s digital world.

To celebrate the students completion of the program and acknowledge their efforts we invited Indigenous Hip Hop Projects to run a dance class. The class not only allowed students to let loose and have fun,  but reminded them to look after themselves and plan their futures in a holistic way, acknowledging the physical, mental and spiritual.

I had lots of fun and I think I am not speaking out of line to say the students enjoyed it too! – Nicole Brajkovic, Secondary Supported Learning Leading Teacher.

Thank you to Manor Lakes College and the wonderful students who participated in the program. We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Digital Springboard and Indigenous Hip Hop Projects for helping us to deliver content.
