As 2016 draws to a close, we decided to once again highlight  importance of  Indigenous culture in Australia, through a Cultural Day celebration on Palm Island.

Our culture is important to us. We work hard to keep our culture alive. – Samara Hanley, CDP

Our Community Development Program delivers activities to Palm Island residents who want to build their skills, find work or simply just want to participate. At our Cultural Day, Palm Island’s Indoor Activity was put in the spotlight with arts and crafts on display. Through the Indoor Activity participants create and learn about business and research our history.

When we go to our activities we are involved with community open days, with sharing our culture, learning more skills and most importantly we are doing something meaningful to us that we can pass down to our children.

With over 120 participants attending the activity, the Cultural Day was filled with arts and crafts that had been designed by all participants and reflected Indigenous Culture.

Everyone who attended had a wonderful time embracing their culture, engaging with their community and sharing their stories.
